What's the difference between Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (DCFC) EV charging?
Level 1 charging occurs at home using a 120-volt circuit (standard electrical outlet). It's the slowest option, delivering 3 to 5 miles per hour of charging.
Level 2 charging involves a 240-volt circuit at home or work, offering faster charging speeds, ranging from 15 to 60 miles per hour depending on the station. Professional installation of a NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwired charging station is required, but Zipp and our certified installers simplify the process.
Level 3, or Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC), uses a 480-volt DC circuit, providing approximately 80% charge in just 30 minutes. These stations are commonly found at commercial locations like shopping centers or highway rest areas.
